one duffel. 23 tapes. no skipping.
Tracking Tapes is told entirely through found footage, one short tape at a time. Every episode is built for a phone screen, and built to be watched twice.
Tracking Tapes is a found-footage horror series made with AI and released as short vertical episodes on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook. Each episode is presented as one of 23 Hi8 tapes recorded in 1996 and 1997 by Cass Adler, a radio engineer who drove across the American West investigating strange sounds on other people's recordings.
No. Tracking Tapes is fiction. Cass Adler, Lena Adler, the Ottleighs and the town of Marrow Creek, Nevada are invented, and every episode is made with AI and labelled as AI-generated on each platform.
Season 1 is called Cassandra. In October 1996 Cass drives to Marrow Creek, Nevada, where Mrs. Ottleigh says her church choir's practice tapes have a second voice under the hymn: her late husband, Harold. In October 1997 Cass stops calling home. In 2024 her sister Lena finds 23 tapes in their mother's storage unit and posts them as she digitizes them.
New tapes post on Instagram (@trackingtapes), TikTok (@tracking.tapes), YouTube (@trackingtapes) and Facebook at the same time. Start with Tape 00, the prologue, and watch in order.
Season 1 has a prologue and 23 tapes. Episodes run from about 15 seconds to just over a minute, so each one can be watched in one sitting on a phone.
Cass Adler, an overnight radio engineer from KVLV in Reno who lived in her van and trusted meters more than people; Lena Adler, her younger sister, who was 17 when Cass went missing and is digitizing the tapes today; Mrs. Ottleigh, who wrote the letter that started it; and Harold Ottleigh, her late husband, who sang bass in the choir.
Tracking Tapes is created, written and directed by Matej Svítok, an AI creative director and filmmaker based in Prague. It is made with AI image and video generation, then edited, graded and sound-designed by hand to look and sound like 1990s Hi8 camcorder footage, and mixed for headphones.
